The Lanky
The Lanky
Families lived out their whole lives on the Lancaster Canal (or "The Lanky"), some never setting foot on dry land, as they transported limestone, coal and gunpowder between Kendal, Lancaster and beyond, from 1819 to 1947. The Lanky tells the real stories of these boatmen and women, following them south along the watery road from the grand opening to the final load.
"A love letter to the Lancaster Canal. Beautifully realised by Oliver East. I wept, laughed and wept again. Bravo"
Frank Santoro
"East, once again, makes a book that is visually daring but also deeply human. "The Lanky", like all his work, puts us in a place, compellingly and for real. East is a champion of words and pictures"
